Cucurbita, Giant Pumpkin 'Big Max' Heirloom
- Sun Preference
- Full-Sun
Description
These giants can weigh in at 100 lbs. Attractive round shape and smooth, bright orange skin make it fun to carve. Allow four months of growth to reach maximum size.
Big Max needs a long warm season to reach full size. Plant in full sun or partial shade in rich soil. Start outdoors about two weeks after last spring frost, or indoors two weeks prior to last frost date. Feed monthly with side dressings of compost or vegetable fertilizer. For the largest pumpkins, prune to one fruit per vine. Set upright while still young. Harvest when rinds are hard and bright orange.
