Cucumis, Pickling Cucumber 'National' Heirloom Value Pack
- Sun Preference
- Full-Sun
Description
This popular pickling cucumber bears a concentrated, heavy set of small, blocky fruit with tender skins and crisp white flesh. Harvest regularly when fruit is 3-5″ for sweet or dill pickles. Resistant to cucumber mosaic virus.
Sow directly outdoors one week after last frost date. Cucumbers grow best when direct sown after soil has warmed to 70˚F. Prefers rich soil but will produce well in almost any garden with full sun and consistent watering. Start transplants indoors five weeks before last frost date. Cucumbers have shallow roots and need to be evenly watered for best results. Feed monthly with compost or vegetable food. Pick regularly to encourage more fruit to set. Vines may be trellised to keep fruits off the ground.
