Dry stream/river beds are used to control drainage; slow the water down, filter it, and direct it to where you want it to go. Although it has an important function, it should also be aesthetically pleasing. Design the bed with gentle curvilinear lines that wind around the garden, seeming to have no visible beginning or ending. Use various sizes of boulders, stones and gravel as you would see in a natural creek; scattered throughout the bed.
To balance out the stone, mix in soft touches with meadow inspired plantings that add bloom color and seasonal influence. Punctuate height and form by combining the multifaceted Serviceberry, the stout Tannenbaum Pine, and the wavy Flame grass. Include a decorative footbridge over the creek bed with a cut stone walkway that lets you wander through your newly created functional and aesthetic space.
