Snow and Ice Control
Snow and ice are a big part Minnesota’s winter season. We know we cannot control how or when the white stuff will fly, but Gertens can prepare you for when it does fall. Ice melt comes with many different active ingredients and just as many options to apply it. We also offer manual ways to remove snow, with a wide selection of shovels, scrapers and spreaders.
The reason Gertens carries 10+ bagged ice melt products, is that each application and site might require different products. We want to make sure you have everything you need and have the right products. Choose from our list to determine the product(s) that are right for you and your site.

Freezgard
Active Ingredient: Magnesium Chloride
- Melts to -25°F
- Product is a flake that easily stays on surfaces

Magnesium Pellets
Active Ingredient: Magnesium Chloride
- Melts to -25°F
- Consistent size and shape to easily go through a spreader

Peladow
Active Ingredient: Calcium Chloride
- Melts to -25°F
- Gives off heat when dissolving, which speeds the melting process
- Round shape helps penetrate ice

Power Thaw
Active Ingredient: AMC, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride & Sodium Chloride
- Melts to -20°F
- Fast melting formula with less dust particles
- Colored blue for easy application and placement
- Contains a rust inhibitor and is safe on concrete
Thaw Master
Active Ingredient: AMC, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride & Sodium Chloride
- Melts to -5°F

Rid Ice
Active Ingredient: Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride & Sodium Chloride
- Melts to -10°F
- Active ingredient in fertilizer
- Save on turf and ornamentals

Ice No Mor
Active Ingredient: AMC, Calcium Chloride & Magnesium Chloride

Sure Grip
Active Ingredient: Calcium Chloride

We sell these products by the bag, pallet and by the truckload. We start our early order process in August, it seems early, but if you know what you will need, it is a great way to save. If we don’t contact you, please feel free to give us a call so we can quote you and the product(s) you use.
Bulk salt, salt and sand mix and treated salt, Thawrox® and Magic Salt, are also available. We can deliver full truckloads of 12 tons or more or you are welcome to pick up any amount from the Landscape Supply Yard.
