Mulching is one of the easiest things you can do to benefit your yard and garden as well as add great accent.

There are several great benefits of adding mulch to your landscaping; mulch prevents weed growth. Mulch is a great protector of plant roots in the winter and helps to prevent frost-heaving; in which plants are literally pushed out of the ground by the natural expansion and contraction of the soil as it cools off and heats up. Mulch will also keep the roots of plants cool during the heat of the summer. Mulch helps to keep the soil well aerated by reducing soil compaction that happens when raindrops hit the soil. Also reduces water runoff and soil erosion.

As mulch decomposes over time it replenishes organic matter in the soil while preventing surface crusts and cracking. Your overall soil condition will benefit from the reduction of erosion and compaction, as well as the addition of new soil material.

A good depth for mulch in a new garden bed is 3 inches. It’s beneficial to keep the mulch itself from touching the trunks of trees or the bases of shrubs; as this can cause rotting to occur because of too much moisture retention. If you’re unsure of how much mulch you think you’re going to need don’t forget we have a great mulch calculator to use!

A favorite no matter where applied, there's much to like about mulch, and there is no match for the stunning accents that mulch will add to any of your yard projects.
