Forget anything you’ve ever experienced in a department store during Christmas. This season, come into Gertens and let your imagination be dazzled, your creativity heightened, and your inner child delighted!
Why the eight themes of Christmas? “We strive to create Christmas trees and coordinating décor that appeal to all areas of interest,” said Teresa Pitera and Dennis Orfei, the creative minds behind Christmas at Gertens.
“We’ve been creating themes for the past ten to twelve years to show people how to create looks in their own homes at affordable prices,” Pitera said.
These creative visions begin by researching trends in the industry early in the year, then mixing and matching different ideas from trade shows. They are later brought to life and magically displayed throughout the store in a way unlike any other.
With the recent closing of the Minnesota native Daytons/Marshal Fields department store, Orfei and Pitera believe Gertens hosts the best Christmas selection in the Twin Cities.
“Each year, people travel from all over Minnesota and surrounding states to visit and shop our selection,” Pitera stated. She explained that there is a great deal of curiosity and excitement of what Gertens will offer each year and what new trends will be discovered.
Orfei agreed. “We’ve had customers come in and request to purchase everything from tip to trunk of themed trees, including the tree itself! They simply loved what we created and it was everything they were looking for. No other store has as many themes and mix of products as Gertens does.”
Tried and true themes from Christmas’s past have been lodge themed trees, traditional trees and anything retro or vintage. Both stated that Gertens adds more variety of products to make the look complete.
What do they enjoy most about Christmas at Gertens? Both agreed: seeing the finished product and the looks on people’s faces as they browse the collections.
“We’re creating an experience for every sense,” Orfei said. “It’s so magical here with all of the Christmas activities and décor. There’s a white blanket of snow coating everything, hundreds of fresh Christmas trees, the reindeer pulling a sleigh…it’s a memory making experience that we are trying to provide.”
When asked if bringing out Christmas items in September seemed a little early, both smiled.
“People want to be the first to purchase the hot items. The anticipation of what’s new and the drive of collectors creates a strong push for Christmas items earlier each year,” Pitera explained.
Orfei expanded by stating people are putting Christmas decorations up earlier so they can enjoy them longer. Both agreed that by December first, most people have all of their Christmas decorating completed.
