“My personal favorites to use in potted arrangements are curly willow, red twig dogwood, white pine and spruce tips,” Rau said. “They look natural and will last through the season, and the white pine adds a softer texture to the arrangement.”
Rau also likes to use accent pieces like pine cones, pomegranates and willows to add personal flair. Around the base of the arrangement, Rau suggests using items such as juniper berries, port orford and incense cedar. She added that people should incorporate pieces they like to make it more personal.

“I worked with one customer to design two arrangements for her home that incorporated pieces for both fall and winter to display through both seasons,” Rau said. “She discussed what she wanted to spend, gave me some input on what she liked, and I had them ready for her to pick up a few days later.”
