Earth Day 2008

Dale K’s top 5 things to do in your garden on Earth Day, and every day, to help the environment we live in.

  1. Recycle your waste to make compost, waste equals food.
  2. Grasscycling is a new term for leaving grass clippings on the lawn after mowing. These clippings will give your lawn valuable nutrients and produce less work for both you and your waste company.
  3. Mulch: Feed your garden soil with shredded leaves or mulch to keep down weeds and conserve water.
  4. Collect your rain water. Rain barrels will catch this precious resource. Re-use to water your plants.
  5. Plant a native tree. Native trees are more likely to thrive over time and nurture bio-diversity. Minnesota birds, animals and insects will love it too!
