Daylilies
If you are looking for a perennial plant that will give you a lot of color, survive in a variety of conditions, and requires minimal care, then daylilies may be a good plant to try. Daylilies tend to be an easy plant to grow, they don't succumb to many diseases, can grow in either sun or light shade, and can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. They also come in a variety of colors to brighten your perennial garden or landscape
Growing Daylilies
- Flower best in full sun but will grow and flower in partial shade
- Grow in most soil conditions, mixing an organic matter into the existing soil will help the plants perform better
- Daylilies tolerate some drought, but do best when they receive 1" of water per week
- Daylilies can be planted anytime throughout the summer
- After plants have grown to a large clump, they can be divided. This is usually done in the spring.
- During the season when the plants are blooming it is a good idea to deadhead the flowers to encourage more blooms in those varieties that rebloom.
- Removing the seed pod after the plants have bloomed usually causes better flowering in the next season.
